APPEA celebrates World Day for Safety and Health at Work and Workers’ Memorial Day

Today is World Day for Safety and Health at Work and Workers’ Memorial Day. These annual events raise awareness around work-related safety and health hazards and is also a day of remembrance for people who have died in the workplace from work-related injuries or illness.

The theme of the 2021 event, which was chosen by the International Labour Organisation, is Anticipate, prepare and respond to crises: Invest now in resilient OHS systems. This theme acknowledges the wide-ranging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of resilient, adaptable work health and safety (WHS) frameworks.

Australian oil and gas companies take workplace health and safety extremely seriously; it is the industry’s top priority for the workforce, public and communities in which it operates, and both onshore and offshore petroleum industry operations are held to exacting safety standards.

APPEA believes that stability, simplicity, and consistency of regulatory frameworks are fundamental to providing the industry with the requirements to efficient safety management. Each year, we celebrate leadership in environmental and safety practices through the annual APPEA Environment and Safety Excellence Awards as part of the APPEA Conference & Exhibition.

APPEA is proud to support World Day for Safety and Health at Work and Workers’ Memorial Day and its continued efforts to bring attention to the vital issue of WHS.
