APPEA congratulates Ken Vowles on his appointment as the Northern Territory’s Minister for Primary Industry and Resources and looks forward to working collaboratively with government to achieve the safe and sustainable development of the Territory’s natural resources.

Mr Vowles has taken a strong interest in the Mines and Energy portfolio in his time as Shadow Minister. The oil and gas industry hopes to continue this constructive relationship as Territory Labor forms government.

APPEA also congratulates Lauren Moss on her appointment as Minister for Environment and Natural Resources, and Jeff Collins on his appointment as Mr Vowles’ Assistant Minister.

APPEA’s Northern Territory director Matthew Doman said he and the industry looked forward to working with Mr Vowles, Ms Moss and Mr Collins to secure the NT’s energy future.

“The Territory has a long and proud history of natural gas development over many decades,” Mr Doman said.

“Natural gas generates more than 90 per cent of the NT’s electricity and gas is already the Territory’s largest export. That is set to increase when the Ichthys project starts production towards the end of next year.

“Enormous economic benefits await the Territory through the further development of an onshore gas industry that can create jobs, revitalise regional communities and deliver reliable, affordable and cleaner energy to domestic and international consumers.

“APPEA is committed to working with government and the community to ensure the Northern Territory’s natural gas resources can continue to be developed for the benefit of all Territorians.”
