APPEA congratulates Paul Kirby on his appointment as the Northern Territory’s Minister for Primary Industry and Resources and looks forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the government to achieve the safe and sustainable development of the Territory’s natural resources.
Mr Kirby has taken a strong interest in economic development and creating opportunity for Territorians in his time in Parliament. The oil and gas industry hopes to continue a constructive relationship as he enters the Cabinet.
APPEA also congratulates Eva Lawler on her re-appointment as Minister for Environment and Natural Resources, and Dale Wakefield, who adds Energy to her existing portfolios of Renewables and Essential Services.
APPEA’s Northern Territory Director Matthew Doman said the industry looked forward to working with Mr Kirby, Ms Lawler, Ms Wakefield and the entire government to secure the NT’s energy future and get the onshore gas industry back to work.
“The NT Government’s policy on onshore gas development is clear. It has accepted the key findings of the Scientific Inquiry into Hydraulic Fracturing that any risks associated with onshore gas development and hydraulic fracturing can be managed by effective regulation and is working to put the framework in place to make that happen,” Mr Doman said.
“It is essential that framework is settled to enable the industry to get back to work in this year’s dry season.
“Sustained economic benefits await the Territory through the further development of an onshore gas industry that can create jobs, revitalise regional communities and deliver reliable, affordable and cleaner energy to domestic and international consumers.
“APPEA is committed to working with government and the community to ensure the Northern Territory’s natural gas resources can continue to be developed for the benefit of all Territorians.” Download PDF
