The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) today welcomed the appointment of John Cotter as Chairman of the Queensland Gasfields Land and Water Commission.

Mr Cotter was previously Chair of the Surat Basin Community Engagement Group, which consulted with the community to address concerns arising from the expansion of the CSG to LNG industry.

APPEA Chief Operating Officer – Eastern Australia, Rick Wilkinson, said: “Mr Cotter’s understanding of agricultural issues and rural communities is second to none.

“The development of Queensland’s gas industry is bringing unprecedented wealth and opportunity to communities previously in decline. However, such growth and change brings its share of challenges as well.

“This appointment is an opportunity to ensure the industry’s benefits are delivered to local communities and that the challenges raised by the industry’s growth, are addressed.

“APPEA looks forward to working with Mr Cotter and the Commission to ensure that the benefits provided to local communities from the coal seam gas industry continues to grow.” Download PDF
