In 2015-16, Australia exported 37 million tonnes of LNG with a value of $16.55 billion.
The country’s country’s 2015-16 production was 48% higher than 2014-15 production.
LNG export markets
Australia’s major LNG markets are Japan, China and South Korea. Taiwan is also a customer and India is an important emerging market.
Several other Asian nations with declining gas production and rapidly growing gas consumption could become buyers of Australian LNG before the end of the decade.
Australia is now the world’s second-largest LNG exporter. It will become the world’s largest LNG exporter by 2020.
