The Conservation Council of WA’s warning that hydraulic fracturing threatens tourist attractions such as The Pinnacles (“What the frack?” Sunday Times, November 23) is just the latest example of scaremongering by groups ideologically opposed to natural gas.

The truth is, there is no gas activity planned for The Pinnacles.

Elsewhere in the Mid-West, new gas discoveries have the potential to provide jobs and economic opportunities for local communities and energy security for our State.

At a time when unemployment in regional WA is rising faster than anywhere else in the country, the real threat to our future is anti-development activism that has no basis in science.
